I've always loved musicals and loved playing, what I consider to be my best role, "The Pirate King with Cupar Amateur Opera Company in February 1991.

Winning the Edinburgh Folk Club Songwriting Competition (with A Wish for Me) was one of the single most important factors in setting me on the road I now travel as a songwriter, in addition to being an interpreter of other writers' songs. Perhaps you can see the surprise and delight on my face as I pose with my trophy. 7th June 1995.

Pictured with two of my heroes, singer/songwriter, Harvey Andrews and the first and greatest of all my heroes, my Dad, George Davies. 24th May 1996.

I have been lucky to have shared the bill with some of my great musical influences and heroes. Godfrey Daniels, in Bethlehem, PA, one of my favourite venues in the USA, was where I shared the bill with Bill Staines (writer of A Place In The Choir and hundreds of other great songs). 25th January 1997.

On location with Isla St. Clair at Crail Harbour in the East Neuk of Fife, during the recording of BBC-TV Songs of Praise. First broadcast on 4th May 1997. Recording date 9th April 1997.

Taken during the last "official" Beggars Mantle reunion, at the Path Tavern, Kirkcaldy. My old friend and partner, Bill McArthur (left) and I were joined by Alan Kay, our semi-regular bass player, for a really memorable night. This photo turned out to be one of the last taken of us together as Bill died on November 21st 2002. He is sorely missed. 9th May 1998.

I have enjoyed many visits to Ingolstadt, in Bavaria, representing my home town, Kirkcaldy. My visit it 1998 with The Sangsters, Fife's premier vocal harmony folk groups, was probably the most memorable yet! 24th May 1998.

Economics and logistics ensure that I work almost exclusively alone. However, there are occasions when I put together a band and they are truly memorable. This photo was taken at one of these concerts in the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes, Fife. 11th September 1998.

My friend, Harvey Andrews, introduced me to the songs and recordings of John McCutcheon. I was immediately a fan. It was one of the magical moments of my career to share the bill with him at The Barns of Wolftrap, Vienna, VA, USA. His audience gave me a wonderful reception, and I was able to watch a true master at work. An unforgetable night! 28th April 1999.

I have had the honour of playing in some high profile places, but none has been higher profile than the United Nations building in New York where I played a solo concert. Yet another unforgetable experience! 5th November 1999.
